The development of Tallaght began in the late sixties and Our Lady of Loreto Parish was established in December 1969 with a pre-fab church on the Old Bawn Road. The parish priest was a Fr.Andrew Griffith.  At that time the Tallaght parish comprised the areas which subsequently became St. Martin’s, St.Oengus',St.Mary's and St.Dominic’s parishes.  The Dominicans took over the parish in 1972. The new church of St.Dominic was opened by Archbishop Dermot Ryan on the 20^th.July 1975. Ten years later, in 1985, St.Dominic’s became an independent parish.
