Ireland’s largest volunteer organisation is the SVP. In practical down to earth care and support it has made a difference to the lives of thousands of Irish people who are or were in difficulties.
Its founder was a Italian layman, Frederic Ozanam (1813-1853) who lived most of his short life in France. His own words indicate the spirit of the Society.
"In my life I want to become better and do a little good" "The question which is agitating the world today is a social one. It is a struggle between those who have nothing and those who have too much. It is a violent clash of opulence and poverty which is shaking the ground under our feet. ". 1834
Affectionately known as the "Vincents", the Society meets in the Priory on Wednesday nights. It can be approached either through St.Dominic’s Parish office or by a note delivered to the Priory Office.
